Adobe makes it official: Adobe AIR now its focus for mobile, HTML5 takes over the web

Adobe this morning confirmed a ZDNet report that Flash Player would be going the way of the dinosaurs, marking a fairly major shift in the company’s mobile strategy. Instead, Adobe will focus on AIR for cross-platform mobile applications, and to ramp up its contributions to HTML5 — with which it also had been working all along.

Writes Danny Winokur, VP and GM of interactive development at Adobe:

HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively.  This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.  read more
